01 — Initial site visit

Before project starts we will always meet to access the condition of the slab that is desired to be polished. This allows us to provide a accurate timeline for project completion and to go over desired aggregate exposure & gloss level.

Once mobilization is completed we will start to mechanically process the floor, starting grit is determined by desired aggregate exposure.

After our initial cut on the floor we will cosmetically repair all larger spalls and other damage to the floor. After we reach 80 grit we apply a polyurethane grouting agent to seal all open pores in the concrete.

We use both potassium and Lithium blends of densifier, The product and amount of product used changes the floor. We ensure that the floor is densified to product technical specifications.

We use a ceramic based transitional tooling followed by resin bound diamond tooling to refine to the desired gloss level.

Application of a fully penetrating guard to provide stain protection and slightly enhance gloss levels.

Advantages Of Mechanically Polished Concrete

Mechanically polished concrete as a flooring solution delivers an extremely durable, easy to maintain, clean modern look.

Finish Options

The final appearance of polished concrete is defined by two main factors: gloss level and aggregate exposure. Finishes can range from subtle, industrial-style matte surfaces to extremely high-gloss, reflective floors.

Aggregate exposure options include Cream (no exposure), Salt and Pepper, Random exposure with larger visible aggregate, and Full exposure, which creates a terrazzo-like appearance.

At Southwestern Concrete Floor Solutions, we provide polished concrete finishes in London, Ontario and across Southwestern Ontario, allowing you to customize the look based on your space and performance needs.

Please note that aggregate exposure is limited by the condition of the existing concrete slab, which can affect the final achievable finish.

Matte Finish

Subtle, low gloss finish with a soft
natural look.

Satin Finish

Semi gloss appearance that offers light reflectivity well maintaining a minimalistic look.

High Gloss Finish

Highly refined surface, maximum light reflectivity, and clarity. Creates a very modern look well remaining minimalistic.

Common Questions

Below are answers to common questions homeowners and businesses in London, ON have about polished concrete flooring.

How long does mechanically polished concrete last?

When properly maintained polished concrete can last decades. Unlike coatings polishing strengthens the existing slab rather than being laid on top of it like an epoxy. This makes it extremely durable and wear resistant.

Despite its smooth appearance polished concrete is not inherently slippery when dry. In fact on some floors we see a grip coefficient increase compared the a non polished floor. Additional treatments and systems can be preformed if slip resistance is a concern.

Polished concrete mechanically refines the existing concrete, while epoxy is applied over the existing slab after correct preparation. Polished concrete is much more abrasion resistant and non marking compared to epoxy and provides a functional flooring system that is more cost efficient compared to epoxy over time.

In most cases yes, the condition of the slab and damage it has accumulated over the years plays out to be the main factor.

Yes if your floor has glue, thinnest, or a epoxy coating already it is removable and we are able to polish your floor.

Yes. Polished concrete is a resistant flooring system that can withstand our climate, It allows the floor the breathe and is much more moisture tolerable than a epoxy would be, which is one of epoxy’s major downfalls.

Maintenance is simple, Regular sweeping and damp mopping with a neutral cleaner keeps the surface looking clean and preforming properly. No waxing or harsh chemicals are required.

Absolutely, Mechanically polished concrete is becoming increasingly common in every space of your home, especially compared to wood or vinyl floors. It provides a durable and modern aesthetic.

The difference between aggregate exposure levels is quite simple, it all comes down to the amount of material removed from the floor. More material is removed to achieve larger stone exposure.

The difference lies in the final polishing steps and the guard used on the floor. Matte finishes have minimal light reflection, satin offers a modern sheen, and high gloss delivers a extreme amount of reflectivity with unparalleled clarity. All options maintain the same core durability.

We offer a cost effective restoration system in 3 steps allowing us to complete 5000 square feet per 8 hour shift.
